Glenfeshie Hostel Upgrades and Progress Page

The hostel is currently undergoing a series of upgrades as follows:

• New entrance wing to the south of the main hostel block. This includes a new, spacious, naturally lit entrance vestibule along with a new purpose built drying room again with its own external window. The drying room also houses the tumble drier, a washing machine and a dehumidifier.
• The new paved access to the hostel provides a more direct route from car park hostel entrance.
• A new kitchen has been built within a new wing to the west of the main hostel. This is considerably larger than the existing kitchen area and incorporates a dishwashing machine plus a much larger refrigerator. The kitchen has a large window facing over the fields towards the river. Locating the kitchen off the main common room, coupled with improved kitchen ventilation will reduce problems with condensation in the lounge.
• The lounge has had the lower walls insulated internally. A new patio door has been installed facing south and a patio area will be built to suit. This provide a great view up the Glen. These works have added lots more natural daylight, has increased the seating area and has allowed a longer table to be installed to seat the entire party at meal times.
• A new shower room has been installed upstairs within the south wing accessed from the bunk room corridor.
• All of the new building workhas been insulated to meet current building standards.
• The completion of the above works will allow the existing shower rooms to be taken out of service one at a time at a later date (hopefully this autumn) for refurbishment and modernisation.

The sequencing of the works will be as follows:

• Build the south wing to the point of being externally complete. Done.
• Install the patio door and patio. Done.
• Complete the access paving from car park to and around the south wing. This will allow temporary guest access to the hostel. Done.
• Close off original hostel access and construct the new kitchen (existing one still in service) and fit out as far as possible the new vestibule, drying room and shower room. (Done)
• On completion of new kitchen open up access to common room and commission. (Done)
• Demolish existing kitchen area and open up access from common room to new vestibule. (Done)
• Commission new vestibule, drying room and entrance. (Done)
• Landscaping, patio and access paths. On hold until the show disapears (On going)
